I’m often asked, “What does 5and2 stand for”? Our name is very near and dear, so I’ve decided to tell the story of where it came from and why it matters.
Whenever we’re tasked with naming a product or business venture, we look for inspiration. In my case, I was coming off seven years of steady employment at a marketing firm serving as their VP of Digital, when unexpectedly I learned the owners were retiring and shutting down agency operations. My family of four was dependent on my income and I truly had no idea what was next.
For years I had dreamt of one day owning and operating my own business. This seemed like it could be the opportunity I had been praying for. But how would I do it? How could I replace my salary and build up a business quickly enough to cover our expenses? While in college, I placed my faith in Jesus Christ, so I knew there was hope beyond my own efforts. God has my back and cares for me. Life will not always be easy, but as Solomon wrote, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps – Proverbs 16:9“. My job is to dream and be faithful, and God would determine how I got there according to His will.
I’ve always loved the story of Jesus miraculously feeding the five-thousand and I’ve empathized with the disciples and their tendency to doubt. Yet God, through Jesus chose to use them as active participants to demonstrate His love and provision. God cared for those hungry people following Jesus, and God cares for me and my family and how He provides for our needs. The way we move around in life doesn’t always look how we think it should, but God is generous in tending to our needs.
5and2 Group was inspired by Jesus miracle of feeding the five thousand with just five loaves of bread and two fish. His miracle inspires me to be dependent on God for his provision daily. It allows me to rest in Him and know that it’s not all on my shoulders. What a relief! God takes care of the lowliest of creatures; How much more so does he care about me!? That message soothes my soul and comforts me to know that my job is simply to be faithful. Faithful to Him in all I say and do. Faithful to my wife and kids. Faithful to my friends and family, and faithful to my clients who place their trust in 5and2 Group.
